Ahead of you stands the Varadiche Tavern. The only structure of substantial worth for miles around. The lifeblood of this sector of the frontier. The air buzzes with magical wards, tingling your whiskers. Up in the earthen lookout tower you can see a Siyuri eyeing you and your Yuke on your approach. After a few twitches of his tail, he seems satisfied you're not a bandit, and he returns to his guard duties.
As you reach the entrance to the adventurer's tavern, the Lureai stablehand comes over and asks to tend to your Yuke. From her you grab your money pouch and sack with a few other small items, and tie them to your waist, before sending her off with the feline.

It's the peak of dinner time, the sun setting at your back. The patrons inside sit around large tables called rin designed to encourage socialization with strangers during their mealtime, coaxing them to chatter and gossip and tell tales of adventure.
Swivelling your ears to listen in, you catch bits about their professions. Adventurers and explorers. Researchers and archaeologists. Mercenaries and escorts. Merchants and master magicians.
Your ears also snag those tantilizing pieces of gossip. The monsters of the area; plant, elemental, animal and ex-animal. To the north lies the worst, not that the other directions are much safer. But for all of the danger, most in the tavern are relaxed and happy. This is a life they've chosen to walk.

$inn["Perhaps it's not best to get into that for the moment. If you would like to, you can come speak with me after your meal. Illusions aside, the Veloxi are the core entrepreneurs of modern Zoan society. Our capital city lies in the very center of the continent, with roads to all other regions. $inn["Now, not everyone in a race can use magic, and some are much better at it than others, but it's common enough that we've taken it into our cultures and used it to shape the world around us. It's only been recently that an expedition like this one could even be possible. But that doesn't mean politics don't come up once in a while!"] Much of this is common knowledge. The Veloxi and the Siyuri don't get along due to differences in philosophy, and the Lureai and Lontak have been fighting over resources for generations.
The innkeeper runs her claws through her long hair. $inn["But even with those differences, we have the same basic form. Two legs, whiskers, claws, pads, a long tail, thick hair on our heads and a pelt of fur... It's hard to tell if Chianni is one of those who 'tries', or if being this charming is simply part of her job description.

Profession://The Veloxi are a fox-based race. Their elements are fire and water. Many wear brightly colored clothes, with frills and fancifulness. They are the race that developed the current system of economy, and they help regulate the trade systems. They are often playful and attention-seeking, often even cocky.//
//As a whole, they are considered good friends with the Lureai, neutral with the Lontak, and on unpleasant terms with the Siyuri. Many specialize in illusion magic, with expert magicians even being capable of shapeshifting, not just as an illusion but as an actual tangible form.//
//In the past, they were seen as tricksters, and distrusted by the other races. Their fur color is usually golden or grey. Light pale shades. Deeper colors are rare, and actual red foxes are often ostracized.//

In attendance are actually quite a few Lureai, brandishing many intricate metal weapons and adorned in a wide array of trophies of their monster hunts, as well as crystals and gems. Their clothing is often minimal or simplistic, allowing their prizes to be the center of attention.
The two tribes are distinct from each other. The northern cats are white, splotched and striped in shades of grey. Their wear is the thick hides of the Yuke, even in this warmer climate. Conversely, the southern cats are tan, splotched and striped in shades of brown, with only the most minimal of clothing to remain modest. $inn["They don't deviate much from their cultures, which makes selling them stuff difficult, but we help the South Mountainers with their water problems, and the North Mountainers are eating up the new food and spice options we provide them."] Chianni smiles with a toothy grin, and licks her chops in a slow, deliberate manner.

Much better than the sparse pickings of the home mountains." //Choose this race.//')[(set: $r to 2, $fire to true, $earth to true)(goto: "Race Select")]]//The Lureai are a race based on the Andean Mountain Cat. These felines have very plush fur, more poofy than that of the Veloxi. Their tails are longer than the Veloxi as well, but have shorter fur. Their fur patterning is consistently striped on the tail, with the other markings ranging from striped to medium size splotches. The face is more likely to have stripe-like markings than their bodies, but is not always striped. The Northern tribe is always colored with whites and greys, while the Southern tribe is always colored with tans and browns.//
//Their elements are fire and earth. Most will wear animal and monster parts as decorative accessories, but they will also wear crystals and gems. Their smithing techniques are quite advanced, but their jewelery is more about showing off the trophy itself than the metal. The Yukes were bred and raised by the Northern tribe, and the mountains there are more likely to have crystals, but less likely to have ore.//
//As a whole, they are considered good friends with the Veloxi, neutral with the Siyuri, and on unpleasant terms with the Lontak. Many of their magicians specialize in excavation and metalwork to help shape their underground caverns. Their disagreements with the Lontak are related to the destruction caused by the seasonal floods in the rivers south of the Southern tribe's mountains, but are slowly being smoothed over thanks to the joint construction of the Luritok Dam.//
//Due to their long-standing isolation, they are slowly welcoming other cultures into their own. They are a stoic people, but they do have moments of passion when seeking challenge and adventure.//
